THE EBTA PROCESS FOR INDUSTRY SPECIFIC CRITICAL BEHAVIOUR CHANGE
EBTA applies the theory and experience of human behaviour and the methodology of experiential learning to develop an industry specific critical behaviour change
process for any industry or social institution.
EBTA has learned that behavioural change starts with the change in culture of an organisation. This change in culture must be driven from the top. Management has
78% power to influence performance and to create a positive production culture.
Management plays a major role in stimulating the culture in your organisation. The focus on behaviour management has moved from engineering and management
systems to people. It is on empowerment, interdependent teams, a behavioural approach and continuous visionary culture alignment.
Our Culture Based Behaviour (CBB) process and Experience Based Behaviour (EBB) process is the link between management’s vision and the human
factor for productive behaviour.
The CBB and EBB training is supported by a Culture Sustainment Process (CSP).
WE HAVE LEARNED THAT THE MOST CRITICAL ROLES IN THE ACHIEVEMENT OF A “ZERO INCIDENTS” CULTURE IS THAT OF THE SUPERVISOR
CLOSEST TO THE WORKFORCE.
Supervisors are vital to the incident free behaviour of their teams. When management gives their full support to an incident free culture vision and when supervisors
are committed in doing their job right and within the set culture, they will be respected as leaders who care and support and act as mentors who are passionate about
incident free production.
EBTA has combined the theory of Behaviour Based Science with the philosophy and methodologies of experiential learning to create a new approach to zero
incidents behaviour. The ZERO INCIDENTS CULTURE MODEL serves as guide to create a zero incidents culture across all levels of management.
EBTA HAS ALSO LEARNED THAT THE NEXT MOST CRITICAL ROLE IN THE ACHIEVEMENT OF A ZERO INCIDENTS CULTURE IS THAT OF AN
INTERDEPENDENT TEAM CULTURE.
An interdependent team culture creates a production environment that is most conducive for visionary behaviour of each team member.
The organisational culture is cascaded to the labour force with an Experience Based Training process. The foundation of the EBT process lies in the EBT MODEL we
have developed and adapted from the theory on behaviour science and experiential learning.
THE EBTA APPROACH
EBTA has combined the three critical roles of a successful incident-free culture development into a combination of interventions –
Culture Based Training for management and
Experience Based Training for the labour force
Culture Sustainment Process
CBT and EBT and CSP follow a few logical steps to get everybody, from top-management to the labour force, to think and work INCIDENT-FREE:
1.
Introduction
1.1.
We learn more about your industry with a site visit guided by your expert personnel. We identify with you the industry specific critical behavioural elements that
may be concentrated on during the intervention.
1.2.
We customise the CBT and EBT programs “With you for you” to concentrate on outcomes from the program that are critical for your specific industry
1.3.
You dedicate an EBT Champion to the process
1.4.
Potential dedicated EBT coaches are selected in close collaboration with the EBT Champion
1.5.
We coordinate with you to identify a suitable training venue
1.6.
We build development training equipment that are suitable to fit the experience based training outcomes
2.
Culture Based Training Process
2.1.
Top-management revisits their vision. EBTA guides top-management to confirm their vision or to develop a new vision with industry specific critical outcomes.
2.2.
During a Senior-management session they commit to the Top-management safety vision. This intervention is a combination of behaviour based training theory
and experiential learning activities with industry specific culture outcomes.
2.3.
Then follows a session with each section’s managers to convey the Senior-management commitment to all other management levels. This session is also a
combination of theory and experiential learning activities with outcomes of industry specific culture development.
3.
Experience Based Safety Process
3.1.
Potential EBT coaches are taken through a selection process to nominate those with the  best potential to become dedicated EBT coaches (Two-day program)
3.2.
Selected EBT coaches do a Train the Trainer session (Four-day program)
3.3.
EBT training of your work force is done by the EBT coaches under full-time monitoring and support by EBTA experts
3.4.
Each labour team engage on a zero incidents behaviour change session. It is a two-day experiential learning based development sessions with outcomes of
industry specific critical behaviour elements through an interdependent team drive. It has the bonus outcomes of team development and that of increased
           production performance.
4.
Safety Culture Sustainment
The changed culture and zero incidents behaviour is sustained through a continuous process of culture alignment. This is realised through the following interactions:
1.1.
Regular Management Culture Maturity measurements
1.2.
Management Culture feedback process – This system will help identify culture areas for attention
1.3.
CBT board for each section manager
1.4.
EBT Coaches functioning and reporting to the EBT Champion
1.5.
EBT feedback system – This system will help identify areas for attention
1.6.
EBT champion to monitor and coordinate zero incident behaviour and culture feedback
1.7.
EBT refresher courses as part of your induction program
1.8.
Our support in regular visits
1.9.
Labour participation systems –
1.9.1.
EBT board for each labour team
1.9.2.
Poster program with posters drawn by labour team
1.9.3.
Culture songs
1.9.4.
Culture sport days
1.9.5.
Etc.
We develop the whole process “With you for you”. The major outcome is industry specific behaviour, but you benefit from the added outcomes of
interdependent teamwork and increased production performance.
This process does not replace any of your existing culture management programs. It rather enhances any of your zero incident management efforts.
START THINKING AND ACTING DIFFERENTLY ABOUT YOUR CULTURE AND YOU WILL EXPERIENCE HOW SIGNIFICANTLY YOU CAN IMPROVE
PRODUCTIVITY AND YOUR INDUSTRY SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE.
Running a similar process with specific emphasis on safety behaviour at NORTHAM PLATINUM LIMITED has resulted in a 59% decrease in incidents during the first
year of implementation of the process.
